James T Tunnel

The Light Inside by James Turrell
-Sam Kozlowski

This is definitely one of my favorite pieces at the MFAH! I always make a point to walk through this tunnel every time I visit. I love how it plays with one’s depth perception and makes you feel as if you could fall off into a blue abyss.

Public Art Proposal

Sidewalk chalk is a fairly inexpensive and safe medium to work in, and could do wonders in bringing even more brightness into the city of Houston. The possibilities are endless:

The city of Houston allows art to remain on city property for up to 90 days, but sidewalk chalk is unique in that, with time, rain and foot traffic will naturally wear it away.

I’d like to section off a piece of Buffalo Bayou Park, either within the park itself or simply along Allen Parkway, where passer-bys such as walkers, joggers, and bikers might be able to enjoy it. I’d also like to invite residents of the city to come watch the process.

These excursions taught me two things:
1.  I need a doggo to take on outdoor adventures to keep me company
2. I should bring my non art friends to things like Skyspace so they become art minded too.

Blaffer Student Show

I went to see the opening of the student show at the Blaffer Museum last Friday. I had a lot of fun perusing the different mediums and ideas!

Here are some of my favorite pieces from the show:

BAR ART!

I've gone to this bar millions of times, gone to the bathroom probably double that. Your average dive bar in Montrose with cheap drinks and bras on the ceiling, but the bathroom is super interesting. Every inch covered in writing, phone numbers, pick up lines, names in arts. I didn't think it would be very tasteful to photograph the bathroom in its entirety, so here's a snap shot of one of the mirrors...

French Market, unidentified art, NOLA

French Market, NOLA

A lot of various artisans through out frenchman street and the French Market, I've seen this piece quite a few times. I always thought it belonged to a vendor, but upon further investigation, it is bolted to the ground, and is irrelevant to the tshirt and bead suppliers who are in close proximity.
No plaques or information could be found on or near the piece...
