text ART
For our assignment on text ART, I wanted to talk about a piece that I had the pleasure of seeing at the Louvre two summers ago. Joseph Kosuth's ‘Neither Appearance nor Illusion’
(‘ni apparence ni illusion’) The neon light text installation was located within the excavated portion of the medieval Louvre. I thought that the mixture of the medieval stones and the curved luminescence of the words upon the walls were mesmerizing. The works are meant to draw the visitor into the mysterious subterranean location within the museum with appropriating texts from a variety of sources: literature, anthropology, poetry, etc.
