I went to see the opening of the thesis show on Friday, and I was extremely excited about what I saw. As a painter, I was mostly infatuated with Charris Amon’s work: I’ve never seen paintings that enormous in real life, and they were beautifully rendered. I was also thrilled to see a Lebanese artist from the same city my family comes from (Tripoli) and I absolutely gushed about to my mother later— she was equally excited. His pieces really resonated with me, especially the story about the kaak (a kind of bread eaten with cheese or za’atar); I had a similar experience as a kid.
And finally, my favorite piece from the entire show, by Heather (I forget her last name, whoops):
Pure gold.
