Houston Police Memorial

 
Last week I visited the Houston Police Memorial. Sadly, the surroundings are still somewhat damaged and not in their prime conditions due to Hurricane Harvey’s flooding. However the monument itself is quite inviting, the multiple staircases on various sides are hard not to climb up. The location is also very beautiful with a great view of the Houston skyline in the background.

Rock Art

For my rock art I chose to embrace the silliness of a pet rock. I have been into sewing lately, and I sewed what normally would be a headband with "Mickey Mouse Ears." I had to draw on the headband BUT I did sew the tiny little ears. I enjoy little things like this, I think now he will sit on my desk next to my computer. I enjoyed learning about rock art, super interesting and such a long lasting medium to work from!

For my rock art, I thought it'd be pretty ironic to take a rock from it's natural setting, in this case a forest, and place it in front of a virtual landscape background. To me it just shows how you can use anything as a form of art and place it in a different setting so long as it's with intent. For rock art, I decided that the rock itself didn't have to be decorated, it could just be used in it's natural form.

UH Public Art Tour

Today I attended the Public Art Tour at the Moores Opera House at the University of Houston to learn more about Frank Stella's "Euphonia." It was awesome to see this work up close, there are so many different pieces to this work that pictures do not do it any justice.

I wasn't really sure what to expect when I saw "Mail Art" on our agenda, but I was happy to learn about the many different possibilities of this art form. I especially didn't realize we could actually mail so many different things, not just paper!

Rock Art

I attempted to take the most random pic, at the most random angle, with the most random lighting for the ROCK ART. I ended up creating an asymmetrical photo with this cool diagonal. The subject reminds me of DC Comics "Thing" character from Fantastic 4.

MAIL ART

  This was a new one for me! I actually had no idea mail art was in fact a thing, it was very interesting to learn about the expansion of it.  It's a great idea and a fun way to connect with others all over the world. I'm excited to see what I get once my envelop makes it's way back to me.
