Artist Residency

Upon Googling, I actually found an artist residency based in Antarctica, of all places. So naturally, I clicked it (https://www.nsf.gov/geo/opp/aawr.jsp). The program, called Antarctic Artist and Writers Program, brings people to— you guessed it— Antarctica, where they have the opportunity to explore Antarctic research camps and wilderness areas and create pieces based on their observations. The goal appears to be to raise environmental awareness as well as “increase understanding of the Antarctic and help document America's antarctic heritage”.
Participants must be deemed “physically fit” (they have to pass medical screenings six months in advance”, so it seems to be very demanding, and they typically stay for around six weeks (though it varies). It looks like the program has been around for a while, and while I think it would be extraordinarily interesting, I can’t imagine that anyone would be anything but miserable having to bear the extreme cold for so long. The participants in this program have my utmost respect and sympathy.
