Student Show

This is my favorite piece from the student show, there is something bittersweet about it that makes me relate to it personally.

Margo Sawyer

Living in Houston I don't really think it was anything special, only because appeal wears off after seeing it so often. But my friend who came to visit from Hawaii was crazy about it, I just thought he was just annoying.

James Turrell Twilight Epiphany

This is a nice quiet place to be alone.

Tolerance

Friend Hall

It was not open, but I took a picture from the door. Unfortunately I was not able to see the ceiling from the door either.
Dan Flavan, you were not allowed to take pictures inside so here is a picture outside LOL

Steve Holt! Gladys Cendejas 2018
Synchronicity of Color was fun, I love the color it adds to the park itself and taking a break from finals to visit was definitely a good decision.

Friend Hall Quaker Hall

This place is only open on specific days so sadly I wasn't able to go inside and see the skyspace.

Dan Flavin

Visiting this place and being told you're not allowed to take pictures is the reason why I had never heard nor seen of this beautiful place before. The light installation is splendid and the windows in the ceiling are just gorgeous and it adds to the visit even though I admit I enjoyed starring at the ceiling being able to see the sky from the inside.

Its not a trip to the MFAH if you don't go through the underground tunnel, every visit is a different color, how nice.

Oops Gladys Cendejas 2018
I remember trying to come here once before but it was under repairs or something, anyways finally being able to visit this skyspace was pretty neat. Its emptiness filled something within me that made the experience so fulfilling.

These giants just seem to be planted all over Houston.

Student Show Gladys Cendejas 2018
The student show was nice, I enjoyed seeing what other artists have been up to this semester. Seeing friends and family support my work and others as well brings a good feeling.

Public Art Proposal

Mexican Restaurant Mural

As a frequent Mexican restaurant customer and fellow Mexican, I have always been intrigued by the lovely murals on the walls and have always told myself I would do one of those. Using acrylic paints, I plan on doing a 3ft x 4ft mural, budgeting at about $20 per square foot, totaling to around $240. I would like to seek funding by asking for sponsors from my supporters because I would like to do this work free for the restaurant. I feel that this would be a great way to support a small company and give customers something nice to look at.
Being that it would be a small company I would just have to speak with the owner of the restaurant to get the approval.
The idea of this public art is to show support to small companies and connect with my Mexican heritage. This is something I have always wanted to do and I feel that it would be a great first step in making public art pieces.

Trash Art

Wormie Geisa Branas 2018
This was my trash art. I painted a little worm on a decaying apple sitting in my trash.

Text Art

Multiple Figure Geisa Branas 2018
This is a literal drawing of multiple figures. It was my final for my Figure Drawing class and the presentation Alton gave last week inspired me to think outside the box.

Simon Gonzales Solo Exhibit

The process of how these were made was really interesting as were the pieces. They were really cool!

Light Art

This is a light art piece I did last semester in sculpture. I made it with coper wiring a tissue paper like material that I found and some small strand lighting.

James Turrell Tunnel

I have always loved this piece and have wanted to step off the edge into the side parts.

Buffalo Bayou Park

I don't remember how many of these we said there were in class but we found two of them! I am curious as to how they were put in the ground.

Tolerance by Jaume Plensa

I have driven by these many times before but never went to look at them. They are really beautiful and I didn't realize how many of them were there.

Student Art Show

I went to the student art show on friday. There were lots of really good pieces in the show. Glad I went

Buffalo Bayou

Sadly I was unable to stop and get a better quality photo but I absolutely love these sculptures!! I’ll be moving right down the street from these beauties at the end of the month and I am very excited to be so close to some of my favorite pieces of public art in Houston!

Twilight Epiphany

I missed the light show for this but made it at the end when it was still lit. It was really beautiful and I am for sure going to try to make it to a light show to experience it that way as well.

part 2 Blaffer Show

Unfortunately I was not able to go inside and see the whole installation but what was visible was still pleasing. I love a piece that I can take something from and be able to have something tangible to remember it by.

Dan Flavin installation

I went to see the Dan Flavin installation it was cool but you don't really have much else to do except walk around for maybe 3 min and then dip. There was no one in there so it  could be a cool place to chill if they allow you to sit in there. They do have events here that would be cool to check out.

Blaffer Art Show

Just a few of my favorite pieces from the the show on Friday night! The top left is a beautiful painting that I couldn’t keep my eyes off, I’m really into mustaches and seventies vibes. The top right is a print that was very intriguing to me and last but not least the bottom would be in the sculpture realm, this was at the top of my list as far as favorites go. I love the wood back drop that these ceramic ears have been mounted on.
