Rock ART - public ART

Rock ART - public ART

This week in public ART we researched the "Rock" as public ART.

The topic was explored from the earliest recordings of human art on rock in cave paintings, thru famous rocks like the Venus of Willendork and Michelangelo's David, and also covered everything from the pet rock to our final rock - the tombstone.

We also studied the massive public art work at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art by Michael Heizer called "Levitated Mass".

In the creativity exercise, students were challenged to create their own interpretation of  rock as art, to transform a rock into art, to place that art object somewhere in public, and to photograph it for the blog.

"Levitated Mass" inspired Rock ART by Alton DuLaney 08 September 2016, UH public ART.

For my piece, I chose a rock that reminded me of "Levitated Mass" and created a piece inspired by Michael Heizer, with, of course, my own twist on the topic.
